48 Riders and a Skatepark Debut — Freestyle Now at Eaton Youthfest 2026
Eaton Skatepark came alive for the first of hopefully many skatepark competitions at the Shire of Dardanup Youthfest in April. With 48 riders rolling in for a strong day of action sports in Eaton, about 1.5 hours south of Perth. With clear skies and great conditions, the park was packed with a healthy mix of local riders and competitors travelling down from Perth. A big thank you to the Shire of Dardanup for the opportunity to deliver the event, and to Sneaky Boardstore in Bunbury for supporting the day and backing the prize pool. With council timing requirements in place, the format was one 60 second run per rider. That format raised the intensity and focus across every division, with riders knowing they had one chance to make it count.
Clockwise from top left – Zen Evans has all the power and skills required to win a competition at any given time. – Alex Davis took 7th in the scooter intermediate and tokk lots of air time as well. – South west legend Jon Graham whips the box and take a 3rd place, Jon has been rolling at Freestyle Now events for over 15 years. – Curtis Gepp made the trip from Perth to enjoy the day in Eaton. – More photos can be found on our Facebook page here.
Scooter kicked off the day with a strong showing in Beginner, Fabien Gepp continued his consistent progression to take 1st place, with Jai Teagle in 2nd and Ryan Owen in 3rd in a tightly contested podium. Scooter Intermediate delivered one of the closest battles of the day, with Vijay Thorn taking 1st, Curtis Gepp in 2nd, and Heath Moltoni in 3rd, all separated by less than a point. In Scooter Open, Kobi Edwards stood out with smooth, controlled flow across the entire park to secure 1st, ahead of local Jack Brown in 2nd and Kayden Wright in 3rd.
The skateboard divisions highlighted the depth of progression coming through the scene. Beginner skate saw strong numbers and clear development across the field, with Olly Holmes taking 1st, Kai James in 2nd, and Eva Jackson in 3rd. In Intermediate, Onyx Black took the win in a very close division, just ahead of Scarlett Harrington in 2nd by 1.67 points, with Max James completing the podium in 3rd. Skateboard Open was led by Zen Evans, who delivered a powerful and consistent run to take 1st, ahead of August Thunblad in 2nd and Jake Swainson in 3rd, both of these riders are on the Sneaky Boardstore team and they brought the energy all day.
BMX Beginner featured a strong group of first-time competitors stepping into contest riding, with Mason White taking 1st place, William Smith in 2nd, and Elliot Smith in 3rd. BMX Open brought together a competitive group of experienced riders pushing each other throughout the runs, with South West local Josh Dunstan taking the win, Essian Jannet in 2nd, and Jon Graham in 3rd.
Overall, Eaton delivered a well-rounded and high-energy day of action sports. From first-time competitors to experienced riders, every division reflected the continued progression of the scene. The consistency of turnout and level of riding shows just how strong the action sports community continues to grow across the region, and we look forward to returning again.
