Mandurah Skatepark Competition 2026: Scooter, Skateboard and BMX Return After Winter Break
The Mandurah skatepark competition was a super rad day, and the best way to bring comp season back after the winter break. The small bowl at Mandurah Skatepark was buzzing from the first drop in, with 74 entries across scooter, skateboard and BMX, a warm day and spectators lining every edge. The crowd was involved the whole way, hollering for every run, bails and all. Then there’s Bloodson. He turned up to judge and MC with two broken ankles, and that kind of commitment to the community is like nothing else.
Scooter beginner was the busiest scooter division, with twelve riders taking turns in the bowl and Flynn Schluter coming out on top. In intermediate, Adam Owen took the win, and that result means he’ll be dropping into open from the next comp. That’s exactly how progression works, and it’s always good to see a rider earn that next step. Open was where the history showed up. Corey Van Dam, one of the OGs of the WA scooter scene, took the win, but Flynn Read stayed right on his tail the whole way and made him earn every point of it. Great to see them pushing each other like that, and with Adam about to join them, open is only going to get more interesting.
Corey Van Dam was in full form at the Mandurah competition taking a win once again in scooter open.
There are many girls taking up skateboarding, and at Mandurah it was great to see a large number of them skating, inspiring and owning the space. Beginner was the biggest skateboard division with sixteen skaters, and it was as tight as it gets, with every skater sitting a point or less behind the placing above them, so every single run counted right down the order. Local radster Zen Evans took out open, but the story of the division was Scarlett Harrington in 2nd, dropping into her very first open division competition and making it count. That’s a big step, and she nailed it.
Zen Evans doig what Zen does best at his local, kick flip to indi grab and a 1st place in open skate.
BMX was the biggest discipline of the day, with seventeen riders in beginner alone. In intermediate, Garnet Rock took the win by just 0.34 of a point, with Rhys Sockett and David Donald right there behind him. BMX open at the Mandurah skatepark competition came down to Jacob Roughton and Charlie Hill. Jacob took the win and Charlie was not far behind, and both brought tricks that lit up the bowl, Jacob with rad turndowns and Charlie with a rad lookback. Great to see those tricks in the mix.
Jacob Roughton has rad turndowns. Jacob won the BMX opens on this day.
That’s a wrap on the Mandurah skatepark competition, and we’re already looking forward to more Mandurah competitions in the time ahead. Massive thanks to the City of Mandurah and the City of Mandurah Youth for making it happen, and to every rider, family and spectator who made it a day to remember.
