Fremantle Skatepark Brings the Stoke Back with the First Comp After Winter

After a long winter break, Fremantle Skatepark came alive with riders, returning favorites, and an electric community vibe that had everyone hyped from start to finish.
The Fremantle skatepark competition roared back into action after the winter break, and the energy was electric! Riders, families, and supporters rolled in early, ready to hit every line and lip in the park — and the long wait only made the stoke higher. Seeing everyone back on the ramps and rails was a reminder of just how vital these competitions are for keeping the community connected, inspired, and pushing their limits.

With 37 competitors ready to throw down, it was clear this first post-winter comp was going to be a day full of action, progression, and pure radness. The weather looked questionable from the start, so it was decided to give all competitors one run to make sure everyone got a score on the board before the rain hit. As it turned out, that call was spot on — with only the BMX Open division missing their run when the skies finally opened up.

Clockwise from top left – Ziggy Ellis on the way to 1st in BMX beginners. – Curtis Gepp wont be in beginners scooter much longer his progression is going up, taking him to a first in scooter beginners. – It was great to see Byron Mitchell back in the comp scene and taking the win in scooter opens. – Billy Gibson took the 2nd place in BMX intermediates, not long untill a win will be his. – For more photos from this competition head to our Facebook album here.

Scooters kicked things off and the riding did not disappoint. In the beginner division, Curtis Gepp took 1st with a super dialed run, followed by Adam Owen in 2nd and Rhys Bowen in 3rd — all showing serious style and consistency. The intermediate division was stacked, but Spencer Park came out on top, locking in 1st place with some smooth tricks, while Cruz West and Flynn Read rounded out the podium in 2nd and 3rd. The open scooter class was huge, bringing in some big names making their competition comeback. Byron Mitchell stole 1st place with a standout run, backed up by Rufus Macfarlane-Brewer in 2nd and Corey Van Dam in 3rd — reminding everyone why these competitions are the place to see top-level riding.

The BMX action was just as intense, with the beginners throwing down across the whole park. Ziggy Ellis took 1st, finishing his run with a rad no-footed can-can, followed closely by Garnet Rock in 2nd and Salva Hogan in 3rd — all showing growth and energy that made the division so fun to watch. In intermediate, Beau Kuckelkorn held it down for 1st, with Billy Gibson and Thomas Hollingworth taking 2nd and 3rd. These riders brought progression and power, sending the crowd home stoked.

The open BMX division had a dramatic twist — just as the riders were ready to roll, the rain came down. In true action sports fashion, the three riders settled their placings with a game of paper-scissors-rock. Jay Roadley came away with 1st, Kody Strong in 2nd, and Jacob Roughton in 3rd — proving that even when the weather turns, the stoke never fades.

It was a day full of clean runs, massive airs, technical tricks, and pure community vibes. The return of the Fremantle Skatepark Competition after the winter break reminded everyone why these events matter — bringing together riders of all ages and levels, families, and supporters for a day that pushes progression, celebrates skill, and spreads good vibes throughout the WA action sports scene. We can’t wait to see everyone back on the ramps next season — bigger, faster, and even more dialed!
