Freestyle Now Returns to Kalgoorlie for BMX, Skate & Scooter Fun

Freestyle Now returned to Kalgoorlie for three days of skatepark coaching sessions and competition action, marking our first visit back since November 2020. We’ve been heading to Kalgoorlie since 2005, and over the years the local skatepark community has continued to grow and thrive. It was fantastic to be back, supporting riders in person again.

Our crew of facilitators included Oben McHoull on scooter and Adam Paynko on skate, both returning to Kalgoorlie, alongside Josh O’Neil on BMX, who was visiting the region for the first time. Together, they guided riders of all levels through coaching sessions. Beyond just learning tricks, the sessions offered a chance for kids to be active, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging within the local skatepark community. For many, it was an opportunity to be seen, have fun, and connect with positive role models who encourage them to push themselves safely.

The three-day event also featured a competition that brought everyone together, giving riders the chance to showcase what they’d been working on. The local skatepark community came out strong, cheering on every run and celebrating the achievements of all riders. Events like this are more than just sport—they help bring a remote skatepark community together, provide positive experiences for young people, and reinforce the value of staying active and engaged.

After five years away, it was clear the Kalgoorlie skatepark community is still as passionate as ever. Freestyle Now is proud to be back supporting the region, creating spaces for kids to grow, learn, and feel part of something bigger, and we look forward to returning again to keep building those connections.
