Freestyle Now BMX Stunt Shows at the Mandurah FlameFest

There are events and then there are experiences. The Mandurah FlameFest is firmly in the second category and Freestyle Now was proud to be back for the second time, delivering BMX stunt shows across two nights on the Friday and Saturday.

Cooper Wilson and Luke Tooze heat things up with side by side backflips

Shaun Jarvis, Luke Tooze, Cooper Wilson and Jacob Roughton made up the crew for the weekend and from the moment the setup was done it was clear this was going to be something different. Flanking each side of the ramp were flame cannons. Not a small detail. The kind of addition that changes the entire feel of a show, turning a BMX performance into something that looks and feels like a full production. When those flames fired as a rider was mid air above the ramp, the combination of bike, height and fire created moments that were genuinely spectacular.

The weather had other plans though. Rain fell across both nights and riding in the wet is one of those challenges that the crowd rarely thinks about but every rider feels immediately. Wet ground means wet tyres. Wet tyres means a wet ramp. And a wet ramp changes everything about how a bike handles in the air and on landing. The standout of the weekend wasn’t any single trick, it was the ability of every rider to read those conditions, adapt and keep the show flowing through both nights without missing a beat. That takes skill, experience and no small amount of commitment.

The FlameFest atmosphere was brilliant. A great event, a great crowd and a great two nights of riding in one of Western Australia’s most unique festival settings.
