Carine Skatepark Competition Delivers Big Energy for Youth Fest
The Carine Skatepark Competition for Youth Fest with the City of Stirling delivered a massive day of action, with 58 competitors across skateboard, scooter, and BMX rolling through. The park was buzzing from the first drop-in, with a strong mix of first-timers, returning riders, and seasoned competitors all feeding off the energy. It had that proper community feel, everyone backing each other, pushing a little harder, and making the most of a stacked day of riding.
Scooter came out firing, with a great turn out considering the heat of the day. Archie Johnson took the win ahead of Kayden Vannasopa Page and Noah Van Wyk, and it’s been unreal watching Archie’s confidence build comp after comp. The intermediate division was one of the closest of the entire day, with less than two points separating the top riders, making it a tough job for the judges. Kirill Ashchepkov edged it for 1st, with Adam Owen close behind in 2nd and Spencer Park in 3rd, all three of these riders are regulars at our competitions and have been putting in the work, it’s easy to see this as their riding progresses. By the time open rolled around, the level stepped up again, Luke Donovan took the win, Flynn Read finished 2nd, and Brandon Black 3rd, with Luke throwing down a huge stanley flip right in front of the judges to stamp his authority on the division.
Clockwise from top left – Olivia Rhoads charging around the bowl sizing up her next trick. – Kayden Vannasopa-Page absolutely going for it. – Rhys Sockett getting higher and higher. – Fletcher Arpin with a huge olllie to flat. For the full album head to our facebook page here.
Skateboarding kept the momentum going, especially in the beginner ranks where numbers were strong and the stoke was high. Levi Wahby led the way in 1st, Daniel Ryan followed in 2nd, and Xavier Gennoe took 3rd, with plenty of familiar faces continuing to build confidence each time they roll in. The intermediate division had a good mix of control and progression, Elliott Hanly taking the win ahead of Fletcher Arpin and Ellie Stathakis. Elliott really set the standard for use of the mini, going trick for trick with power and precision and his competitors followed suit, showing us all the technical tricks they can do on the coping. In open, it was local knowledge and experience that shone through, James Rixom took 1st place with great power and style, Yuuki Yasumura impressed claiming 2nd and Alistair Viviani rounded out the podium in 3rd. Yuuki’s run in particular turned heads, showing he’s more than ready for the step up into Open that he took on recently. A special shout out to the skateboarding community, who were cheering on every competitor and bringing the vibes all day, it made that division something special to be part of.
BMX closed the day the right way, loud, committed, and full of big moments. The beginner division saw Dylan Pustkuchen take the win, with Pacey Park in 2nd and Seb Dartnell in 3rd. Pacey’s progression has been clear, and landing a 360 with ease on comp day shows the work he’s been putting in. It was also great to see young Olivia Rhodes out there having a go, taking up BMX after being inspired by her brother Liam who competes in the Open category. Intermediate kept the energy high, Garnet Rock continued to separate himself from the field, taking 1st with huge backflips out of ramps two to three times his size. Tate Wanless claimed 2nd and Rhys Sockett 3rd in a solid and competitive division. The open class brought a tight battle, Jacob Roughton took the win ahead of Joel Weller who travelled all the way from Albany to compete and Liam Rhodes coming in third, with only a handful of points separating the top runs. Joel Weller and Ryan Aquilina (Aquaman) joined him in sending it over the back rail, a challenge MC and head judge Shaun Jarvis had been throwing out all day, and they delivered.
From start to finish, Carine delivered exactly what these events are all about, strong participation, steady progression, and a community that backs itself. With riders stepping up, pushing limits, and supporting each other across all three disciplines, it’s clear the next wave is coming through strong, and the future of action sports in WA is in good hands.
