Spearwood Skatepark Competition Brings the Energy

The Spearwood competition was a massive day of scooter and BMX talent, with an incredible turnout and energy from start to finish. A huge thank you to the City of Cockburn for their support in making the event happen. Spearwood Skatepark continues to prove itself as one of the most fun competition parks around, with its flowy layout allowing riders to link the entire park seamlessly in their runs without needing to reset.

Jacob DeAbru returned to the competition scene after almost 10 years away but he had to roll out the rad at his local skatepark and it was a treat to watch him ride. Look forward to seeing him at more competitions. 1st in Open BMX

Scooter kicked things off for the day, and it didn’t take long for the level to show. The Beginner division saw a huge turnout of 13 competitors, with Alex Dall taking 1st place. Hot on his heels was Lucas Pomatti in 2nd, just 0.34 points behind, with Brax Booth in 3rd. A special shoutout to Jax Baker, who brought some seriously original tricks into his runs, out-of-the-box riding will always catch the judges’ eye. In Intermediate, it was great to see Cruz West stepping up his game to take 1st, followed by regulars Adam Owen and Curtis Gepp in 2nd and 3rd, who continue to raise the bar every competition. In Open, Luke Donovan claimed the win by a massive 5-point margin, throwing down huge flip tricks and smooth, flowing runs across the whole park. Flynn Read took 2nd, with Kirill Ashchepkov in 3rd.

BMX kept the momentum rolling, with the Beginner division just edging out scooter with 14 competitors. Max Godkin took 1st place, followed by Oliver Cuffe-Cain in 2nd and Pacey Park in 3rd, with Pacey continuing to climb the leaderboard at each event. It was also great to see riders like Pacey Park, Jax Baker, and Archie Johnson stepping up and competing across both disciplines throughout the day. The Intermediate division delivered a standout showcase of talent, packed with familiar faces. Cody Morrison took 1st by just 0.67 points, with Garnet Rock in 2nd and Cohen Haigh in 3rd. In Open, a major highlight of the day was seeing local legend Jacob De Abreu back in competition, riding as clean as ever and inspiring the next generation. He took 1st place, with Joel Weller making the trip from Albany to secure 2nd, and Jacob Roughton finishing in 3rd, bringing dialled tricks and great vibes. There was just 0.34 points between Joel and Jacob, making it one of the closest battles of the day.

Overall, Spearwood delivered an unforgettable day of riding, progression, and community. From first-time competitors to seasoned riders, the level continues to rise at every event, and it’s clear the future of the scene is in a great place. We’re already looking forward to the next one.

Clockwise from top left – Jacob Roughton might turndown apple pie but can always turndown his BMX. – Luke Donovan sent this stanley flip out of the bowl into the lander like he has done them many times before, which could be a correct observation. – Garnet Rock getting loopy with a vertical 360. – Adam Owen has been on a progression tip the last few months and it was showing at Spearwood. – More photos can be found on our Facebook page here.
