Spearwood BMX & MTB Jump Competition Caps Off Big Day

Although placing in fourth on the open BMX division Sam Langford did not disappoint the nacnac fans

Freestyle Now delivered another jump competition for BMX and MTB competitors on the same day as the Spearwood skatepark competition. As soon as the skatepark competition wrapped up, we packed down and moved just 50 metres over to the Spearwood Jump Track to kick off a second competition for the day. It was unreal to see so many BMX riders back up and compete again, showing their dedication and hunger to ride. The energy carried straight through, with riders ready to send it on the dirt and keep the day rolling. The format was simple, each rider getting three runs through the jumps with the best run counting for their score.

BMX Intermediate brought the heat straight away, with Tsuguma Ando absolutely killing his runs to take 1st place, riding with confidence and control. Tate Wanless secured 2nd, continuing to show his progression and threw down some rad nacnacs, while Garnet Rock claimed 3rd, backing up a strong day across competitions. In BMX Open, Jacob Roughton took the win with powerful and dialled riding, hitting up a variety of tricks on all the sets,  followed by Liam Rhodes in 2nd, who continues to impress with his consistency and flow. Joel Weller, making the trip from Albany, rounded out the podium in 3rd, once again proving his commitment and skill.

The MTB divisions delivered an awesome turnout, with riders showing up ready to throw down on the jumps. In MTB Intermediate, Jedd Cook took 1st place with solid runs, followed by Daniel Spurr in 2nd and Rowen Wearing in 3rd, all showing great control and style through the line. MTB Open was a standout, with Beau Kuckelkorn absolutely turning it on, riding with style, grace, and power to take the win. Hitting up a 360 mid pack and then in his final run sent a flip mid pack like it was an ender jump. Jimmy Martin secured 2nd, while it was great to see Blade Coleman back in competition, taking 3rd and reminding everyone what he’s capable of.

From start to finish, the Spearwood Jump Track competition capped off a massive day of action sports. With riders backing up across multiple events and disciplines, and the level continuing to rise, it was a true showcase of dedication, progression, and community.Big shout out to the City of Cockburn for supporting the event.

Clockwise from top left – Tsuguma Ando took the win in the intermediate BMX division with some great trick like this no foot cancan, only a matter of time before he has them extended. – Tate Wanless is progressing fast and also keeping the style alive and thriving with this nacnac. – Beau Kuckelkorn did it well for the big wheels, this whip out in his first run mid pack was followed by a 360 and then a flip in his consecutive runs. – First in BMX open was Jacob Roughton who thought he was superman and then grabbed the seat. – More photos can be found onour facebook page here.
