Port Kennedy Skatepark Competition – Chaos, Big Tricks, and Pure Stoke

Port Kennedy Skatepark was alive with energy as part of the City of Rockingham youth festival, with live music, bike maintenance, and a buzzing crowd keeping the stoke high all day. The format was tight – one run only, 45 seconds to throw everything down – not our usual style, but it made riders think fast, commit hard, and bring their A-game. And boy, they did not disappoint. From the first hit to the last, you could feel the progression, the confidence, and the fire in every run.

Scooter riders came out swinging across all divisions. In beginner, Curtis White took the win with clean, controlled riding, Adam Owen backed him up in second, giving the judges something to debate with only .66 between them, and Raidan Hyde showed off smooth lines and serious style to grab third. Scooter intermediate was next level, with Curtis Gepp stepping up from beginner and taking first place, showing off commitment and consistency, followed by Flynn Read and Finn Defesche. Scooter open was stacked with big tricks and flow. Corey Van Dam brought the OG experience, and Jacob Flavelle impressed again, showing he’s not just a one-off at Bibra Lake skatepark competition a few weeks back but truly back in the community and charging the park. Brandon Black, one of our most consistent regulars, was on fire again, letting everyone watch his progression unfold in real time.. Corey’s appearance was a highlight – smooth, polished, and throwing 540 flares that only an OG like him can pull off.

Clockwise from top left – Adam Owen boosting the competitor faveourite hip with style and steeze. – Thomas Hollingsworth getting floaty in the PK bowl. – Kody Strong foot jammin the extension, not for the faint of heart. – Onyx Black getting loose and progressing in skateboarding steadily. Skateboarders kept the hype rolling. Beginner was stacked, with Fletcher Arpin claiming first, Hazel Bouwer climbing into second, and Arie Howes snagging third. Seeing Hazel progress at a park where we first met her was awesome, a reminder of how coaching and persistence pay off. Skate intermediate had another Howes prodigy, Davie,  taking the win ahead of Duke Kalani Sulistyo and Kai Radicioni, all riding fast, clean, and smart. Skate open brought the heat, with brothers Cruz and Zen Evans throwing everything at the park – Cruz taking first, Zen in second, and Daniel Burton landing solid runs for third. These skaters had the crowd locked in, throwing energy back at the riders with every slam and every trick.

BMX was pure chaos in the best way. Beginners set the tone with Garnet Rock boosting the hip like a pro, Pacey Park landing his 360 smooth as butter to grab second, and Tate Wanless rounding out third, climbing his way up the leaderboard. Intermediate saw Liam Rhodes dominate with speed, style, and flow, Charlie Hill in second, and Rhys Sockett in third – all riding like they’ve been working on their flow and tenacity. Open was nuts – Jacob Roughton claimed the win with flow and creativity, covering the whole park and setting the bar. Kody Strong came in second throwing some big tricks in true Kody style, and Joshua O’Neil third with his infectious good vibes and hype. Every rider was making Port Kennedy skatepark their playground, showing that progression, creativity, and run awareness are firing on all cylinders.

By the end of the day, it wasn’t just about who landed what, it was about the stoke, the commitment, and the way this community comes together to push each other. Big tricks, big slams, and big vibes, that’s what Port Kennedy delivers, and the City of Rockingham backed it all up with a festival atmosphere that kept everyone buzzing. From scooters to skateboards to BMX, this day showed off the next generation of riders who are dialling in their skills and loving every second of it.
